Since 2008, the Saylor Foundation’s free education initiative has focused on exploring the promise of the Internet to drive the cost of education to zero and expandaccess to quality open educational resources (OER). Toward this end, we have built over 300 free, self-paced, online courses, with many more on the way. Hundreds of lessons here for teachers to use in creating lesson plans.
Thinkfinity is the Verizon Foundation’s free online professional learning community, providing access to over 60,000 educators and experts in curriculum enhancement, along with thousands of award-winning digital resources for K-12 — aligned to state standards and the common core. Here, educators connect and collaborate through themed groups, blogs and discussions, sharing resources and best practices that support 21st century teaching and learning. Its content includes interactive student games, lesson plans focused on various themes, education blogs and online discussions, and much more.
The Library of Congress’ “For Teachers” page highlights ready-to-use classroom materials that are aligned with state standards and take advantage of the Library’s primary sources. It includes access to primary source sets around topics such as U.S. presidents; short facts or activities for class starters, such as “Today in History” and everyday science mysteries; themed lesson plans for dozens of topics; and even professional development curriculum.
